Maloof Rocker

A sculpted, Maloof-style rocking chair in walnut, with a spindle back, shaped arms, and hand-carved runners.

Walnut
The walnut Maloof-style rocking chair in use, seen from the side as someone sits in it, showing the shaped arm, spindle back, and long curved rocker on the floor.

The Maloof Rocker is a sculpted rocking chair in walnut, built in the tradition of Sam Maloof’s classic form — a fanned back of tapered spindles, arms that flow into the front posts, a seat carved to the body, and long, continuous runners underneath.

There are no square edges here. Every arm, post, and junction is shaped and carved by hand into soft, flowing curves, and the surfaces are worked until the transitions disappear into one another. The legs meet the rockers in a sculpted joint, pinned with small round contrasting keys left visible in the grain.

Like everything we make, it was milled, shaped, and finished by the two of us in our Madison shop — one chair, carved individually from start to finish, and marked in the crest rail with its owner’s initial and the date it was completed.
